Family Project - Abuse | drawing, embroidery and performance

In Portugal, the confessional dimension has a scarce presence in the contemporary artistic production. The exhibition, which Bonneville now presents at Galeria 3+1, is his first solo and follows the project 'Family Project', initiated while participating at the artistic residency 'Sítio das Artes' at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2007 and it is perhaps his most dramatic moment so far. After trying to understand his parents’ separation and embodying his father's lover, Bonneville addresses the subject of sexual abuse, which he suffered as a child.
The exhibition combines a series of embroidery, a powerful and shocking set of drawings and also a performance that happens only during the opening. Bonneville’s aesthetic has something candid and innocent about it while simultaneously revealing a hard, cruel truth.
