THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING MARGUERITE DURAS

Marguerite Duras (1914-1996) was a French writer, filmmaker and playwright. Her work, inhabited by characters in search of love to the limits of madness or crime, was viscerally marked by the youth spent in Indochina. Initially framed in the molds of postwar neorealism, she later approached the principles of the nouveau roman, although her novels are never limited to mere experimentalism, but reveal an intensely personal breath; her life rivals and matches her work to the point that it is difficult to understand them separately.
