with reclaiming the body (recuperar o corpo), miguel bonneville curated a collection of seven solo performances by portuguese artists from different generations, showcased at the são luiz municipal theater. these shows have deeply influenced bonneville both as a spectator and a creator over the past two decades. inspired by this profound impact, bonneville curated a program that unified these performances under a broad theme centered around the body, recognizing its indispensable role in art. the aim was to reclaim a communal experience of the body; to explore it as a fluid boundary, a canvas for interpretive possibilities; to delve into its capacity for difference and its pivotal role in struggles and resistance. these creations are distinguished by their focus on authorship, with a central emphasis on issues of the body and its representation.
this program sought to shed light on solo performances that may have been overlooked over time, providing these artists with an opportunity to revisit their pieces and present them live. it offered a platform for new generations of artists and the wider public to engage with works they might not otherwise have encountered — or, at least, not in their original form. the overarching goal was to create a diverse repertoire, contributing to the preservation of the memory of these artists and their projects.
